ASPiH Conference 2024, November 3-5 Edinburgh International Conference Centre

The countdown to the ASPiH Conference 2024 is on! The Edinburgh International Conference Centre will host this year’s event from 3rd to 5th November. You can find the SentiraXR team at Stand 20!

A Brief History of ASPiH

The Association for Simulated Practice in Healthcare (ASPiH) was founded in 2008. It has spent the past 15 years dedicated to advancing simulation-based education. ASPiH has played a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals across the UK, Ireland, and beyond by fostering collaboration among its members, other professional societies, and commercial partners. This year’s conference will celebrate ASPiH’s contributions to the simulation community and look ahead to the future of this rapidly evolving field.

Keynote Speakers at the ASPiH Conference 2024

The conference will feature an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, each bringing unique expertise and insight to the stage:

  • Professor Steven Yule (The University of Edinburgh) will deliver a keynote on November 4th. This is entitled “How Human Factors Can Contribute to the Improvement of Team Performance and Patient Safety”. As Chair of Behavioural Sciences, Professor Yule leads groundbreaking research in surgical innovation, human factors, and patient safety.
  • Professor Roger Kneebone (Imperial College London) will explore “The Transformation of Simulation Over Time”. A leader in simulation science, Professor Kneebone combines his background as a surgeon and general practitioner with his work in performance science, shaping new approaches to medical education.

At our stand this year, attendees will have the unique opportunity to experience hands-on demonstrations of our immersive simulations. By putting on a VR headset, you’ll be able to step into realistic medical scenarios that will challenge both your clinical and communication skills.

Here’s what you can expect to explore:

  • Practise Emergency Airway Management: Unblock a tracheostomy tube on a small baby while also managing the emotions of her distressed mother, Esme.
  • Take a Medical History: Interact with elderly cancer patient, Harry. Practise your communication skills and clinical decision-making as you skillfully gather his medical history.
  • Follow the Journey of an Asthma Drug: Gain a deeper understanding of pharmacology. Trace the path of an asthma medication as it moves throughout the body.

These simulations offer a highly engaging way to refine both technical and interpersonal skills in a safe, controlled environment.
